Mercedes-Benz has recently introduced its new CLS-Class in the United States, which is fitted with Mercedes’ new MULTIBEAM Headlights with LEDs. The brand-new system has 24 LEDs individually positioned in its high beam, which can be electronically controlled. The Multibeam LED headlamps let the light distribution be more precisely controlled while keeping the light concentrated. The whole system is controlled by an image sensor placed behind the windscreen and four control units that alter the brightness pattern as high as 100 times per second.

The latest Mercedes-Benz MULTIBEAM LED headlamps are equipped with an array of new lighting options that extend Intelligent Lighting Systems. The system has the following features that include:

– Anti-dazzle, high-performance main beams that respond quickly and with greater precision

Camera-based, anticipatory active light function

A light function with the navigation-assisted operation for roundabouts

Based on the German luxury car maker, The Multibeam LED configuration is effective enough to redirect light away from cars approaching it, and high beams can remain on. Other four-wheelers can be mechanically hidden out of the beam’s direction to prevent drivers from being blinded. The company aims to improve the technique by incorporating more LEDs. Based on a Stuttgart-based automobile maker, the headlamps work like digital cameras. This implies that having more light points or pixels provides better lighting. The company is developing a MULTIBEAM setup with 84 individually lit LEDs that will feature a resolution of 1,024 pixels. The technology will be available in future Mercedes automobiles. The higher the number of individual light elements, the more control will be available with no mechanical devices physically repositioning the lights.

The German premium carmaker is believed to be working on a “High Range LED high beam that could provide illumination that extends up to 600 meters. Mercedes says these results are possible with LEDs for a lower cost than the laser headlamps made by its arch rivals, BMW and Audi. With these new technologies used in cars, it can be likely that the coming Mercedes automobiles will be more secure and more technologically modern.
