  • Older homes: One of the other misconceptions about a home inspector’s visit is that it is required only for older homes. That’s about as far removed from the truth as it would be. A home inspection can throw up several issues, and one that you can attend to immediately. This would be an advantage as far as selling your home is concerned.
  • Inspection reports are too complicated: That’s not so, as home inspection reports can easily be understood by most homeowners. Inspection reports may seem complicated but you would still be well advised to take a close look at it, and even ask for help to enable you to understand the issues that the inspector had flagged. But the reports, on their own, are anything but complicated and a mere perusal should make it apparent.
  • The inspection takes place Monday – Friday: The first thing that homeowners need to understand is that inspection does not take place on weekdays alone or from morning 9 to evening 5 pm.  There is no set rule and the inspection can take place anytime and as the homeowner, you would probably get advance notice, just hours ahead of the inspector’s visit. 
  • Home inspections need detailed planning: While some home inspections are scheduled ahead of time, most tend to take place the same day that the inspection is requested. As a homeowner, you can expect the inspection to take place any day and at any time – you just need to be prepared for the same.
