You must first ensure that you are ordering the right size of doors for your cabinets. They will not fit properly if they are too big or small. You need to choose the type of style cabinet door that you prefer. There are many different types of cabinet door styles, so make sure to choose the one that best suits your home. You need to properly install the cabinet door. Follow the steps below if you are confident that you can install cabinet doors on your own.
Step 1: Remove Current Doors
Open the doors and remove the hinges from the mounting plate on the inside of your cabinet. You can pinch the part of the hinge closest to the cabinet. However, some hinges may be different. After removing the existing doors, remove all hardware from both the door and cabinet.
Step 2: Measure your doors
You’ll need to make sure that your replacement cabinet doors are the same size as those you currently have if you plan on reusing existing hinges. This can be done by measuring each door’s exact height and width. You can skip to step 4 if you’re measuring your current doors. Follow step 3 if you are ordering hinges for your doors.
Step 3: Add Overlay
The cabinet door is slightly larger than its actual opening. Overlay is what this is. Standard cabinet doors have a 1/2-inch overlay on all four sides. Add one inch to both the width and the height of the cabinet opening when ordering a new cabinet door to account for the overlap on both sides. If you are using double doors, divide each measurement by 2 after adding the inch. Subtract 1/16th inch for the space between each door’s opening edge. Substitute the amount of your cabinet door overlay instead of 1/2 inch. Cabinets with unusual overlays may require a new hinge and/or an adjusted borehole.
Step 4: Ordering the Doors and Hinges
Once you have the right measurements, you can browse our selection of custom-made cabinets doors. Type in your measurements and the doors will be made to your exact specifications. For a small extra charge, you can have us drill hinge holes into the door in our factory. The holes will make it easy to install hinges. Blum hinges are also available that fit perfectly into the pocket holes. You can also cut the holes and find the hinges yourself.
Step 5: Installing the Hinges
Each hinge borehole is made up of three holes: a large hole called the hinge cup, and two smaller ones that ensure perfect alignment. Attach the hinge mounting plate first. Lift the locking flange on the hinge’s base and then insert the hinge base in the hinge cup. Rotate the locking mechanism until the holes align with the smaller boreholes. Your hinge will be firmly fixed in place after the locking flange has been pressed.
Step 6: Mounting the Doors
Attaching a piece of straight wood to the opening of the cabinet is the easiest way to mount doors. To account for the overlay, use strong clamps and hold the door in place 1/2 inch below the bottom edge. Mark the screw slots on the mounting plate of the door so you can know where to drill pilot holes. Then, using a Phillips screwdriver, attach the mounting plates to the cabinet face frame. Reattach the hinges and reattach them. For the final part, it is helpful to have a helper.
Step 7: Adjusting the Doors
Our Blum hinges have four screws on the mounting plate. You can adjust the position of the cabinet doors using each of these screws. You can adjust the two screws that hold the cabinet door to the frame so that it is perfectly aligned. The screw that is farthest away from the hinges allows you to adjust the distance between the door and the face frame. This can be useful if sound-reducing “bumpers are installed on the closing edge of the door. The center screw allows you to adjust the door right or left so that double doors can close perfectly together. Spend some time adjusting each door to ensure that it functions and looks perfect.
