1 – Lights That aren’t Quite Right
The battle with your light bulbs is one of the most common electrical problems you may have encountered in your home. It can sometimes feel as though the lights in your house are not working perfectly no matter how many times you try.
- You might find them too bright or too dim. It could be that the wattages in your home are different. You may also have a poor neutral connection.
- Sometimes they may flicker. It is usually a sign of faulty wiring. Faulty wiring can lead to serious injury and should be addressed immediately. Flickering can also be caused by faulty wiring.
- The lights often go out. You may have a bad bulb pack, too much wattage, or bad wiring.
2 – Frequent/Regular Surges
Many factors can cause power surges. These include winter storms, problems with the power company or damaged power lines. These surges can be very annoying because they cause your lights to go out or your TV to turn on and off rapidly. These surges can often be caused by lightning. You may need to check if you are experiencing surges that do not include lightning. Sometimes, cheap electronics can create surges. You should also consider purchasing surge protectors to protect your electronics from being damaged by a power surge.
3 – Outlets/Circuits Overloaded
Overloaded outlets can cause problems if you have many electrical appliances. It is not a good idea to plug your TV, Xbox, sound bar, and computer into one outlet. An outlet that is too full can be described as a device or appliance overloading. It’s easy to fix because it’s almost always your fault (sorry!).
4 – Power Sags and Dips
The power surge is closely related to power sags or dips. A short drop in voltage causes these. These surges and dips don’t cause power to stop completely but may cause lights to dim for a moment. These may occur if you have small, faulty appliances that are plugged in. Don’t buy electronics at flea markets. This can also happen if your home has too many large appliances that are using all of the electricity.
