How to get rid of earwigs in your house naturally?
Earwigs, also known as pincher insects, prefer to eat decaying plants and wet leaves. They may decide to infest your home at specific times of the year. Here are 8 natural methods to get rid earwigs.
Earwigs, which are flexible insects with forceps (forceps), are located at the back end of the abdomen. Although they aren’t dangerous, they can pinch you. The forceps (pincers of the earwig) are used to grab prey, spar with other earwigs or hold their potential mate.
They are attracted to moisture and decaying vegetation (aka dying household plant) etc. Earwigs are more active at night than during the day. They can be found under logs, rocks and mulch as well as in flowerbeds.
They are often said to have their names because they love to crawl into people’s ears while they sleep. However, this myth is untrue. There are many things you can do if you’ve seen several earwigs.
1. Reduce excess moisture, wetness, or dampness around pipes. Reduce humidity in cellars and basements. This will help the earwigs reproduce easily.
3. The outdoor lights should be directed away from your house and not onto decks or patios. Earwigs love lighting and will find a comfortable spot under chairs/seat cushions, floor or welcome mats, among other things.
4. Make sure gutters and drains droop away from your home. To keep water from reaching the foundation, install a drain extension.
5. You should remove any plant matter that has gone to mush, such as flower beds or indoor plants.
6. Plant pest-repelling herbs such as cosmos, anise, cosmos, fennel or dill around your home. Some herbs, such as MINT, can attract pests.
You can set a trap if you spot them in your house.
DIY Earwig Household Trap
A shallow can of tin, such as cat food containers, jar covers or the like, will be needed. You can fill them with any type of vegetable oil, such as soybean, corn, canola or canola. The oil acts as an attractant and the earwigs will climb in. However, they can’t crawl back out of the traps. You can place the traps wherever you have seen earwigs, such as under the sink or in laundry rooms.
Garden Trap Idea
Make a tube out of a newspaper or cut the cardboard centre from a roll. In the evening, place it at the base of your plants. To get rid of any earwigs, you can tap the tube into the bucket in the morning. This is also a good idea for household plants.
Earwig Natural Predators Include:
Frogs, Toads and small reptiles (lizards), birds, spiders. These natural predators will help eliminate the earwig problem (outside and in your garage).
7. Sprinkle diatomaceous Earth around potential entry points (the edges and doors) to stop earwigs entering your home. This will force them to walk through the soil to gain access to your home. Diatomaceous earth kills them by drying their exoskeletons. However, it is safe for pets.
8. Weather stripping or caulk can be used to seal all entry points (windows and doors, pipes, foundation cracks etc.).
