How to get a bird out of your garage?

We are fortunate to live in an area home to many birds. Our property is “out in the country”, with plenty of open fields. Birds come and go every day. We enjoy seeing all the birds but don’t love when they find their way into our garage.

What is the reason birds enter your garage?

Although the next section will focus on methods to get birds out your garage, it is important to understand why they were there. This will allow you to takeĀ steps that will prevent this from happening again.

Birds often fly right into your garage thinking they can pass through. It might seem to birds that there is an opening for them to fly through if they see windows or doors on the opposite side.

They might also be looking for a safe nesting spot. This has happened in our garage’s upper section. It is a good idea to get the bird/birds out as soon as possible.

1 – Be Patient

If a bird enters your garage, the first thing you should do is open all your doors and windows. Then be patient. A calm bird will be more likely to find its way home than one that is stressed. Give it lots of exits and then get out of the way.

2 – Provide an obvious exit

If patience is not enough, you can give the bird an exit route. You’ll need to close all windows and switch off your lights. You should close the garage door.

The bird will be able to exit the garage easily thanks to the natural light source.

3 – Use a rake

You can also use a rake but not in the manner you think. Instead of hitting the bird with your rake, raise it in the air and move it towards the bird. The bird will eventually land on the rake if you are lucky.

After you’ve placed the bird on the rake and moved it towards your garage, lower it slowly. The bird should begin to fly once it has seen natural light.

4 – Fishing nets are a great way to catch it.

You can catch the bird with a fishing net if you have one. You will need to wait until the bird lands somewhere you can reach.

It can be difficult to catch a bird using a net and it is more likely that the bird will panic. This method should only be used if the challenge is too much.

5 – Install an Owl Decoy

If the above methods have not worked, birds will avoid owl decoys. You shouldĀ choose a decoy which emits noiseĀ that is bird-deterrent and makes some movement. Because birds are more comfortable with stationary decoys than those that emit sound and move, they can be less effective.

You can place the owl decoy inside the garage to deter other birds from entering your home after the bird has been removed.
