Last night, I watched England beat Mexico in a friendly in preparation for the South African World Cup in a couple of weeks. I’ve always been a fan of soccer. As a matter of fact, it was the first sport I started to play but I had to quit quickly because i fell in love with basketball (and still am) but also because I wasn’t very good. Anywho, as i watched England play yesterday, I realised that after years of watching football (soccer) I have never seen an overweight pro footballer. Never. I even tried to research it and the best i could see was probably Ronaldo (the Brazilian one) but he is the exception to the rule. Athletes build their bodies naturally through sport and retain and improve athleticism as opposed to bodybuilders who have bulky physiques which they may have got to using unnatural substances and lack athleticism.

(Soccer is one of the biggest sports in the world if not the biggest. Living in Europe, soccer is the number one sport, although basketball is catching up slowly but soccer remains number 1. One of my goals this year is to play a lot more soccer.) Athletes have more advantages than bodybuilders Athletes in most sports have better bodies and skills than just plain bodybuilders in my opinion. Some bodybuilders are so big they have lost the ability to run and sometimes even walk. Athletic movements are graceful and always look pleasing to the eye. This is one of the main reasons I admire athletes rather than bodybuilders because I feel they show the natural look that people should have. They look good on and off the court as well instead of only in the gym. Most people would prefer the athlete on the right compared to the bodybuilders physique. It is more attractive.

The best way to achieve a lean body is through sports

Being proficient in the gym is useful and will help, but to improve athleticism playing sports is bar none the best way to do so.People generally tend to push harder when competing against a fellow sportsman than when they are alone on a treadmill or whatever. I thin k this is one of the main reasons athletes can get the physiques they have. This is also why I admire athletes, because of how hard they work for their goals, not to take anything away from bodybuilders though but in my opinion athletes push harder.

My favourite lean athletes

I think the athletes in the best shape are those that combine heavy strength work with bursts of intense effort. Obviously, I am biased in favour of soccer players and basketball players but I will try my best to include some other sporting greats as well. Cristiano Ronaldo is in shape! Most people argue he is quite arrogant and vain but you can’t hate on the end product.
