What’s your plan this weekend? My boys are off on a trip, and I’m missing my boys greatly! I have found that to be the most challenging aspect of separation -its all-or-nothingness. If I’m on my own and with my partner, I am awestruck by it, even though it’s a lot, and when they go away, I’m sad, especially on that first morning. I’m trying to improve the transitions and hoping that it’s a muscle that’s getting stronger. (Any advice from parents who have children?) Meanwhile! However, time and time, I’ve observed that focusing on the hurt by asking questions that clarify the issue and rethinking in a manner that makes the situation more difficult lets people talk about their feelings without being rejected. It won’t cause them to feel more uncomfortable speaking about the hurt as they’re already in pain and contemplating it. When it is all on it, individuals experience many feelings about their feelings. People are often embarrassed to have difficult times as we carry so much guilt about having normal reactions to stressful situations.
