I love working out to music, whether that be with my headphones in or from a speaker. There is a certain sense of privacy that I feel when listening to my music during a workout. It’s almost like a calm in the midst of a storm. Outside of my ears and mind, is chaos and the music is like the serene intervention but it can also be the fiercest motivator. Okay I’m romanticizing it a bit but I think you catch my drift LOL.
Last night A DJ saved my workout
Okay that title was a bit much but I’ve learnt from my experience of working out that music can sometimes be the “X factor” that gives you the edge to hold on just that much longer. There is a theory that chocolate releases endorphins and can change a persons mood (according to some scientists and many female acquaintances of mine for some reason..LOL) but I would like to argue that music during a workout can also release endorphins and also elevate your mood. For example, I was doing some stair running drills and I was on the 8th set of 10 and honestly, quite ready to give up. I turned up my mp3 player and suddenly I had this burst of energy, motivation…whatever you wanna call it. I was in the zone and I attacked those last 2 sets like my life depended on it.
(LeBron James is a joker! LOL @ 1:15 -:29)
Athletes have used music to help them focus on their respective goals. LeBron said above about his love of different types of music, and it was well publicised during the Olympics that Michael Phelps was a big fan of Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy to get him mentally focused and I’m pretty sure Jason and the Argonauts got mentally focused to the sound of the Sirens, but probably for different motivations LOL
Here are some of My favourite workout songs:
Just Like You Imagined – Nine Inch Nails
I first heard of this song in the 300 movie soundtrack and it got me so hyped plus the visuals of the movie and it always gets me in warrior mode:
Pass Out – Tinie Tempah
This song is fairly recent, but has been a hit from day 1. I like the the futuristic sound to it as well.
Till I Collapse – Eminem
Eminem is in my opinion of the best hip hop lyricists of all time and he usually knows how to capture the feeling of aggression in his music.
(This song doesn’t have a music video so i put up the mix I first heard it on & combined with the visuals of NBA players it always gets me ready to compete)
Everytime We Touch/Sexy Chick – David Guetta
(These 2 songs just remind me of summer, summer parties and makes me want to work to get my body right for the sun)
