How to cut a mirror without a glass cutter?
It is easy to believe that you can only use a glass cutting machine to cut glass. This is the easiest method, but it’s nothing more. Three other methods only require common household items. These methods are all easy to use, but it is important that you wear safety glasses and gloves for your protection.
String
Cutting glass is possible without the use of string. Make sure you have plenty of water. You need it to be large enough to dip the glass up to your elbow.
Secure the string around your glass, where you plan to cut it. String that is too loose will not work. Next, light the string and then hold the glass in your hand and place it in the bucket of water.
Take the glass and submerge it in water. Use a stick to hit the glass at the desired point. The water will soften the blow and reduce the vibrations. When you hit the glass, it should break along the string’s line.
Wire
It is possible to use wire to cut glass with no glass cutter. Water is still necessary, but you will need a tray that allows the glass to lie flat and can be submerged up to three inches. Use a dry, clean piece of glass to start. Next, use a sharp instrument to lightly score the lines you wish to cut.
Your wire should be longer than the length of the cut. The ends should be shaped into loops. To use the loops as handles, insert wood through them. The wire should be heated to a high temperature. Once the wire is ready, place it along the cut line.
Once you have done this, you can take the glass out and submerge it completely in the water. The glass should begin to separate from the water by itself due to the heat of the cutting and the cold water.
Scissors
It is very easy to cut glass with a regular glass cutter without the use of scissors. To do this, you will need to have a large container of water. You will need a large tray of water to allow the glass to submerge completely and for you and your scissors to work underwater.
Mark the line that you wish to cut on the glass. Submerge the glass completely and then use a pair of scissors to cut along the line. The glass will cut as though it were thick paper. Although the line you get won’t be perfect, you can clean it with a blowtorch and a whetstone. Rub gently on the edges until it is just as you want.
