Now is the perfect time to get a water blaster to remove winter grime from walls, decks, and fences as the weather warms. These are five tips that will make water blasting much easier.
- Safety first
High pressure water can pose unique risks. First, remember that water blasters can generate a lot thrust which can cause you to move in ways you didn’t expect. Be careful, especially when working from high places, and don’t spray your feet or hands. Consider the debris field as particles and dirt can be ejected at great speed. Eye protection is recommended. Be careful when you are near electric connections, particularly meters boards. It is not a good idea to use water to flush an electrical fixture.
- Low pressure is the best place to start
High pressure house water blasting in auckland can cause damage to older paint and facings. You can start with lower pressure water blaster pressure, or with a wider anglenozzle, until the surface is ready to withstand high pressure.
- Wash at an angle
Sticky dirt and paint spots can be removed more effectively by setting the nozzle at 45 degrees. Keep the water blaster pointed at a constant angle.
- Wash walls starting at the bottom
To soften dirt on the walls, spray the entire area with the nozzle. Next, work your way up the walls, starting at the bottom. Use broad horizontal motion to remove dirt. Keep the nozzle at an equal distance from the wall. It is easier to see the areas you have washed, and it will also make it less likely that dirt remains on the wall. After washing the wash, remove any dirt and grime from the wall.
- Decks should be taken care of
Timber decks that are set at the highest pressure can cause damage to the wood and splintering. Use the water blaster at either a lower setting, or from a further distance. Water blast along the grain and walk beside the deck if necessary to maintain an angle and distance from timber. Reverse the process by placing the bearer or nail line at the point of your reversing. Exterior cleaning chemicals and chlorine sprays can also be applied to improve the deck’s appearance.
After you are done, drain the water blaster water and hoses. Water blasters should be transported upright so that oil from the high pressure pump does not touch the critical components.
