How to remove scratches from stainless steel?

Stainless steel is still a popular choice for kitchen appliances and counters. It’s also favoured for its durability and sleek design. Stainless steel can get scratches, despite being strong. It is possible to reduce the signs of wear and tear or even remove all scratches from stainless steel.

You’ll notice that stainless steel has brush marks. This is a result from the manufacturing process. It doesn’t matter what scratch removal product or method you use, make sure you only rub in the direction that the grain is facing. If you do, it will only worsen the problem.

Please note: You will do more harm if you apply these techniques to stainless with a protective clear coating or synthetic surface.

Keep these points in mind as you gather your materials and begin to restore your stainless steel. Although it may not look brand new, it will restore the appearance of your kitchen for many years.

HOW DO YOU REMOVE DEEPER SCRATCHES IN STAINLESS-STEEL?

A stainless steel scratch remover kit, such as Scratch B-Gone or Siege Stainless Steel Sink, and Cookware Scratch Remover, can be used to treat larger imperfections that do not respond well to the compound. Most scratch remover kits include a polishing compound as well as a set of abrasive pad. To remove scratches from stainless steel, you will use a variety of grits. Follow the instructions provided by your manufacturer.

  1. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Identify the grain direction in your stainless-steel.
  2. Start by using the appropriate grit pad for the particular scratch. Rub the scratch in one direction only. Using an abrasive might leave unattractive circular marks. Only apply the pressure necessary to remove the scratch. Don’t overdo it or go deeper than is necessary.
  3. If the manufacturer recommends it, switch to a gritter pad and continue buffing. Add water or other compounds as needed.
  4. To finish, wipe the surface with a microfiber towel. Finally, polish the steel to a shine.

Avoid using steel wool or abrasive chemicals for your metal surfaces’ regular cleaning and maintenance. When washing large pots and cast iron, protect your stainless steel sink by using a rubber dish mat. To prevent water from accumulating underneath the mat, which can lead to discoloration, be sure you remove it after washing.
