Sporty woman exercising at home to stay fit

A miracle happened today in England. The weather forecasters predicted sunshine throughout and guess what?? They weren’t lying. It was baking today. So much so that nearly everyone in the town centre had shorts on. English weather is famous….or should i say infamous, for its notorious unpredictability. Plenty of people are taking advantage right now and the smell of BBQ and beer is rife. A thought hit me though, today as I was working out in the gym……I was missing out.I cant wait for BBQ weather.Burgers, salads, you name it…..Me and a couple of my friends want to hit the beach this summer. Its going to be crazy!!

This ain’t “hide indoors” weather

Summer is the season for getting outside and finding your best skirt/cargo shorts, bottle of water, aviators and just chillin’. No one is going to be caught indoors. Even hardcore gym fanatics will not be caught missing out on the rays—-and neither should you. The main goal for me this summer is not to just to work up a sweat—–its to work out and take advantage of the sun. My “Get Lean” Approach this summerThis summer I want to get out in the sun and move around as much as I can. I had set goals at the start of the year to hit and one of them was to hit a beach—any beach, I’m not fussy—-this summer. I want to (and will) recreate the famous James Bond scene as he steps out of the ocean, by any means necessary LOL. I just need to find a good pair of swimsuit trunks. I’ll post my results up on here for sure. This is my inspiration this summer!I’ll get them trunks if its the last thing I do.

I am also going to cancel my gym membership for the summer. I have decided to spend more time perfecting body-weight movement patterns and explore how far I can go taking my body through full ranges of motion. For the moment however, I am going to be using a combination of Kettle bell circuits and Barbell complexes at the local park just to get my wind up and also to maintain mass. I spoke briefly about circuits on my last post and I cannot speak highly enough of them. They get the job done, period!
This is my typical summer’s if I’ve got a BBQ Go into my backyard and complete 3-4 sets of a barbell complex and 1 -2 sets of a kettle-bell or body-weight intervals. This alone would probably get me going for the day because of how much fat burning is going on during and after the workout.

Rest and then hit the park to do some stair running. This is another great way to get my wind up because it helps my endurance, and improves my athleticism all in one. The only other activity which may be used and comes close is jump roping. After that I would do some sprint intervals, they are usually short , maybe 4- 6 sprints at most because i would be gasping at this point. I may fore-go this workout if I am going to be playing soccer later on or basketball or just any sport in general. Go home, rest, maybe a little power nap/beauty sleep  and then usually summer cleaning and just clean out the house. I would usually not eat anything a couple of hours before the workout so as i can tap into my body’s “fat stores” to help me burn even more fat, if that is the aim of the workout. I don’t always use this technique but it works wonders when I do. I will elaborate more in the future.

For my post workout meal,I am not too fussed over having enough protein in my meal. As long as i have a balanced dish, I am satisfied. I see a lot of people fretting or having what is called, “protein guilt” after their workouts. Research shows that the amount of protein we actually need is very overrated, but that’s for another post.If I know I will be eating a lot more during the night, say at a BBQ or party, I would eat low calorie for the days leading up to the BBQ. For example, if I’m going to a party on Saturday, I would start eating low calories from Tuesday or Wednesday just so I can look extra sharp and still eat a bit on Saturday. This way I can enjoy barbecue food and still be within my weekly calorie intake. Sweet! For my low calorie meal plan, I would eat a salad for breakfast (if i am hungry, breakfast is overrated) and for lunch, and then have a normal sized dinner in the evening.  My salad would consist of lettuce, chicken, eggs, peppers and pretty much all greens and nuts  I can get my hands on. This way I can have a balanced meal that is still helping keep me lean because it is low calorie. Also, important to say is to always stay hydrated. Always keep a bottle of water with you. This helps me stay hydrated and actually helps kerb my cravings because sometimes I may want to eat but actually find its thirst.
