Just like fashion trends, even home decor trends come and go with season and centuries! What was once “oh so cool!” type of home decor may become “oh so boring” over time! That is why if you decorate your home by some designs you had been dreaming of since decades, you can’t expect it to be on trends and look captivating in your home in today’s time! The look may be your dream come true in a sweet home, but actually would look monotonous or outdated to onlookers!
To avoid such kind of situations happening with you, always ensure hiring the best interior designers in Sydney like Ioanna Lennox interiors who are experienced in curating evocative designs and creating mind blowing interiors for you. These designers ensure your home is designed based on the recent trends, and look awesome too! But still, even after reading this, if you do the same on your own, you are bound to overdo – and as they say too much of anything isn’t good.
Home decor ideas which if overdone can spoil the charm of your home!
Decorating a home and interior designing is an art! As amateurs, we often do blunders in the stress of elaborately decorating our homes! This wouldn’t beautify your house more, but would make it look weird and strange, and can even irritating to eyes! Read about such common blunders below and better stay away from them when you’re designing your home!
Everything’s plain as white — If you are still living in the Victorian era in your mind, and assume that just as a bridal attire, a bedroom should be all white, and then it’s time for you to take a cup of coffee and rise with the time! Gone are the days where white presented chastity and therefore was a mandate for every bedroom. Now, plain white bedroom walls would be the last thing you’ll want to come back to in your home (solo or with a partner)! Just the idea of everything in plains can turn your mood gloomy and dull. Today, bedrooms are designed more sensibly with perfectly layered patterns, mixed textures and all sorts of wild and sexy colours. In fact, if you pick up the trendiest bedroom pictures, you’ll hardly find a spot of plain white in the entire room! So, if you are overdoing your whites, stop in your tracks and give it a fresh swatch of other colours too!
Phrases and alphabets everywhere? — We know the idea of customisation is reigning the minds of people, but decorating a bedroom and everything in it with words or names can be too much to digest! You couldn’t wake up looking at the wall clock with your partners initials on it, then gazing at the morning quote sticker next to it, lifting the bedcovers that has your couple picture embedded on it from a pillow that showcases you both flaunting your best smile! Phew!! Just the list and the ideas are enough to put anyone off! We mean, adding your photo framed beautifully on the side table and placing a good quoted text as large frame on the main wall was enough! Or just monogrammed linens. Don’t you think going overboard with customisation can make you feel claustrophobic at the end of the day?
All too cosy and sweety sweety — We often get overwhelmed by the concept of bedroom and assume the entire room to be a representative of a bed! That is why the moment you enter the drapery store to get the furnishing essentials for your room, you get tempted to buy a too soft mattress (which is ok!), then a satiny bed sheets along with frills and foam on your pillow covers, then a fluffy quilt, too many cuddly cushions, a super soft rug at the bottom of your bed and again a carpet that may be at least 10 inches thick! (You can as well be hopping on moon with all these cushions and softness) And If all these are too flowery or too decorative with frills and drapes, then it would be all too sweet to handle! Okay for a night or two in a hotel’s honeymoon suite, but definitely not in your home. Instead of overdoing so much in softness and spending thousands in it, better create a mixture of comfort and subtleness! Remember, in reality, a bedroom is about functionality too, (especially in urban homes where due to space crunch rooms often multitask) along with the romance factor.
Too many gadgets under a roof —Working within your comfort zone is understandable! But if you are surrounded by gadgets in your bedroom, from led tv screens to desktops, even laptops on the table, iPads, Xbox, etc., then surely your home would reflect more as a computer lab than a bedroom! Better handle these gadgets with care, and limit them in your room!
A bedroom is your favourite and most personal sanctuary! If you overdo it, you are ultimately affecting your normal persona too. Better design it with care and keep everything balanced to enjoy its full advantage!
